Food and beverage manufacturing

Production waste, out-of-specification batches and line losses are predictable, segregated and consistent in composition, which makes them well suited to on-site processing. The commercial case is usually built on removing gate fees and haulage from the cost base rather than on the energy alone.

Hospitals and healthcare

Ward and catering waste is generated continuously and cannot be deferred. Processing it on site removes a clinical waste-handling dependency and adds a measure of energy resilience on estates where continuity of supply carries real operational weight.

Universities and corporate campuses

Multi-building estates with several catering outlets generate enough volume to justify on-site capacity, and campus sustainability commitments increasingly require demonstrable diversion rather than reported tonnage. Output feeds back into the estate.

Hotels and hospitality

Kitchen and banqueting waste drives bin storage, odour management and collection schedules that sit awkwardly alongside the guest experience. Handling it on site removes all three, and the heat output has an obvious use in a hotel.

Local authorities and municipalities

Separate food waste collection obligations can be met with distributed, containerised capacity rather than a single central plant, which shortens haulage routes and avoids committing to one long-lived civil engineering project.

Defence and military bases

Waste is processed inside the perimeter, reducing the number of external contractor movements through a controlled site and contributing to energy resilience where independence from local infrastructure is a stated requirement.

What the regulation requires, by market

Each market moves at a different pace, and the driver is rarely the same one. In the United Kingdom it is Simpler Recycling together with a rising Landfill Tax. Across the European Union it is Article 22 of the Waste Framework Directive. France applies AGEC and the TGAP levy, Italy works through FORSU with PNRR funding available, and Spain operates under Ley 7/2022. In the United States the driver is commercial and, increasingly, resilience rather than statute.
