Software Engineer (with an affinity for AI)

Role:

As part of a dynamic, multi-skilled and small team, your responsibilities for information systems and software will be broad, varied, and all-encompassing. You will primarily work from home, with a requirement to attend our offices and customer sites, globally, in both internal- and client-facing capacities. Your work will include product control systems development contribution, information security, internal IT support, software development, and client support.

  • Research, test and implement hardware, software applications, tools, and API integrations to improve productivity and promote collaboration within our remote-working team.
  • Manage and direct research and development (R&D) and processes to meet the needs of our AI strategy
  • Understand company and client challenges and how integrating AI capabilities can help create solutions
  • Lead cross-functional teams to identify and prioritise key areas of the partner’s business where AI solutions can drive significant business benefit
  • Analyse and explain AI and machine learning (ML) solutions while setting and maintaining high ethical standards
  • Lead and/or contribute towards new software development projects.
  • Experience in software development and coding, including experience with multiple languages/technologies, Git version control, and tools to manage specifications, development, testing, documentation, delivery.
  • Advise C-suite and business leaders on a broad range of technology, strategy, and policy issues associated with AI.
  • Support the Engineering team by contributing towards the planning, design, installation, commissioning, and support of our products’ process control systems (e.g., Programmable Logic Controllers, sensing, IoT, networking, etc.).
  • Manage automated testing of custom development software.
  • Manage in house and outsourced development of documentation for products and tools.
  • Plan, implement and maintain information security protocols through controlled hardware or software installation and staff education.
  • Plan, implement and maintain emergency plans for equipment or power failures.
  • Communicate courteously with colleagues, customers and other stakeholders by telephone, email, letter, and face to face.
  • Keep accurate records of discussions or correspondence with stakeholders.
  • Provide design input and feedback for R&D projects.
  • Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals and tender request responses.
  • Comply with company and site-specific Health & Safety policies and Codes of Practice, including the development and implementation of Risk Assessments, Safe Working Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Complete paperwork and produce reports diligently.
  • Adhere to all statutory regulations, and SEaB Energy policies and procedures.
  • Protect, at all times, the confidentiality of information handled within the remit of the post.
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Chief Executive Officer.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or similar.
  • 2+ years of experience in applying AI to practical and comprehensive technology solutions
  • Proven experience with ML, deep learning, Tensorflow, Python, NLP
  • Experience with program leadership, governance, and change enablement
  • Knowledge of basic algorithms, object-oriented and functional design principles, and best practice patterns
  • Experience with REST API development, NoSQL design, RDBMS design and optimizations
  • A love for technology.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Knowledge and experience of PLC systems and ladder logic.

  • Experience with single board computers and single board microcontrollers (e.g. Raspberry Pi, Arduino, etc.).
  • Understand networking and asynchronous communications over wire or WIFI via IP using sockets.
  • Have Experience in end point system security and management of crypto protocols for industrial communications to a central authority.
  • Familiarity with industrial control networks and BMS networks.
  • Familiarity with electrical generation technologies, including grid-synchronisation.
  • Experienced in working within renewable energy or oil and gas.

Technical Writer

Role:

As part of a dynamic, multi-skilled and small team, your responsibilities for technical documentation will be all-encompassing. You will primarily work from home and/or our London office, with a requirement to attend customer sites, globally from time to time. You will work with the engineering team to support and document our current solution and future solutions. You will also work with our sales team to provide technical product expertise that will support the sales process.

  • Organise material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
  • Edit, standardise, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or personnel.
  • Confer with customer representatives, vendors, and colleagues to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publication.
  • Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
  • Select photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
  • Study drawings, specifications, mock-ups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.
  • Interview production and engineering personnel and read journals and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
  • Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail.
  • Provide technical and operational support to colleagues, sales agents and clients during and after the sales process.
  • Contribute to the preparation of grant proposals and tender request responses.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • A demonstrated track record of creating, proofreading, and editing technical product documentation.
  • Experience working with content management systems (CMS) and version-control systems such as GitHub or BitBucket.
  • experience in several of the following areas: Technical Documentation, Customer Success, Customer Support Project Management, Sales Engineering, Consulting.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • The demonstrated ability to work well remotely within a geographically-distributed team.
